It has been confirmed, Royal Caribbean’s Project Sunshine is to be revealed today, 5th February, 2013.
Sunshine will be a pretty high density ship, being only a little bigger the ‘Freedom’ class (‘Independence of the Seas’ etc.) yet will carry 466 more passengers (lower berths). It will be a lot smaller than the ‘Oasis class.
NCL’s Breakaway and Getaway will be a similar size/passenger capacity.
I can’t imagine there being much room for ‘Central Park’ type features on-board ‘sunshine’. I even wonder if there will be a ‘Royal Promenade’?
So, I’m expecting a pretty conventional mega-ship, but I could be very wrong. Watch this space….

That ship has all the grace of a car park with a hint of a bow at the “pointy end” and a tiny funnel. I have to wonder how a ship like that handles rough seas.

Hi Malcolm,
Thanks for the update.
I can’t help thinking that RCL are beginning to lose the plot by trying to have the largest ships. Bigger might mean more profit in the short term but perhaps they need to look at how much all cruise lines are having to discount to fill berths.
We sailed in Serenade of the Seas (Radiance class – Panamalised) several years ago and she was beautiful with excellent facilities, food and service.
We sailed last year in Independence of the Seas (Freedom class) and although with more facilities, she was just ‘too much in your face’. Service and food quality had badly slipped.
Heavy discounts mean heavy cost cutting and are actually beginning to give cruising a bad name.

Hi Bruce, thanks for the comment. I cruised on ‘Brilliance’* (another Radiance class) a few years back and whole experience was more ‘classy’ and less ‘resort’ like. Maybe the Quantum class will be a step back from the ‘full-on’ resort experience, maybe not? (*I have a review on this blog).
