Fred. Olsen cruises is pulling out of Falmouth and has blamed it partly on the lack of dedicated cruising facilities. Fred. Olsen only began using the port last year, but has already decided it is not suitable.

The company said it is withdrawing departures from half of the ten UK ports it uses from next year, including Falmouth.

It currently runs two cruises a year from the port, a 12-night Canaries and Portugal cruise and a ten-night Around the UK sailing cruise, both on-board Boudicca.

A spokesman said: “Regrettably, one of the five UK ports from which Fred. Olsen has decided to withdraw departure calls, with effect from its 2018/19 cruise season onwards, is Falmouth.
